The beautiful painting proposed depicts a young and attractive noblewoman belonging to high society, identifiable in Marianne de Cogny, wife of Count Philippe-Emmanuel de Beaufort

The effigy is dressed in a refined ultramarine blue velvet dress with a wide neckline decorated in gold thread and a draped peach-colored cloak that frames her figure, creating a sense of movement in the image. In her hair, gathered in a free hairstyle on her neck, there is a clip of the same shade as the dress.

The painting, of fine quality, is an excellent example of the type of portrait in vogue in France during the Grand Siècle, between the latter part of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, and can be stylistically traced back to the workshop/circle of François de Troy (Toulouse 1645-Paris 1730) who, together with Hyacinthe Rigaud and Nicolas de Largillière, were among the most influential authors of the genre.

He moved to Paris while still very young, already in 1671 he became a member of the Royal Academy of painting, thanks to the help of his masters Claude Lefebvre and Nicola-Pierre Loir, to then begin a brilliant career as a history painter as well as a portraitist, thus skilled and appreciated that he had to surround himself with a large workshop and other master painters to satisfy the requests of the Parisian nobility.

In 1690, King James of England, in exile near Paris, also made him his first court painter.

A characteristic of this portrait is its beautiful antique 18th century carved and gilded wooden frame decorated with typical rocaille motifs.
Given the age and quality, the frame has a curvature on the back which does not affect the perfect reading of the work from the front.
