Intense portrait of Christ the Redeemer by a painter from the circle of Titian Vecellio (1490-1576), active in the 16th century.

Going into the details, we are in front of the image of Christ's face, slightly in profile and with his gaze turned to an undefined point; the technical-qualitative level is very high, with particular attention to anatomical details, extremely meticulous and to the study of light and colour.

The charm of the painting is given by Christ's expressiveness: no anguish or suffering leaks from his face, but on the contrary, the fixity of his gaze infuses the spectator with deep spiritualism.

The image reconciles Christ's remarkable strength with a refined elegance, sustained by the superb descriptive capacity of the face, which emerges with remarkable plastic strength, pervaded by an incidental light that illuminates the glow of the incarnate, and with such a level of realism that it seems almost tangible

A study of the work denotes how the artist, active in the orbit of Titian's workshop, had the opportunity to admire and study from life the drawings of his works and the rendering of faces, drawing inspiration from them.

The Venetian master tackled this subject on several occasions, and the iconographic prototype from which ours must have drawn is probably derived from paintings such as the 1570 Salvator Mundi Christ (Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg), the Christ Carrying the Cross of 1508-1509 (Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Venice), the Christ with the Globe of around 1520-30 (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna), or the Christ of 'The Tribute of the Coin' of 1565-1568 (National Gallery, London ) and the Christ Saviour (Florence, Palazzo Pitti).

The painting is in a good state of conservation. Old restorations are present.
