The large painting that we are pleased to present to you illustrates an opulent garland dotted with an incredible variety of flowers, highlighted by the contrast with the monochrome black background, distinguished by an elegant structure combined with the characteristic liveliness and brilliance of the colors.

The work that for descriptive precision and style fits into the Flemish school of the seventeenth century, is certainly attributable to the hand of a disciple of Daniel Seghers (Antwerp 1590 - 1661) one of the greatest Flemish painters specialized in floral subjects, especially garlands.

The painting is pervaded by a sumptuous elegance, given by the sinuous movement of the flowers, drawn with precision, and tied together in a sort of melody that unites them in a breath of baroque taste.

The counterpoint of the chromatic range gives the soft pinks of peonies, the intense blue of anemones and hyacinths, the ethereal white of roses and orange blossoms, up to the bright red which gives the composition a masterly and last lyrical touch.

The authorship related to Seghers of this still life is confirmed by stylistic parallels with many of the artist's documented works; similar for pictorial characteristics, for the qualities of selected botanical species and for the presence of the unmistakable use of the precious lapis lazuli blue.

After training in Antwerp, his hometown, in 1611 he joined the local Guild of San Luca and became a pupil of Jan Brueghel the Elder. In 1621 we find him in Brussels with Pieter Paul Rubens, for the decoration of the church of San Michele and Santa Gudula. In 1625 he went for a specialization course in Rome where he collaborated with Nicolas Poussin and Domenichino.

The canvas, datable to the first half of the seventeenth century, belongs to the series of flower garlands, a genre that the artist practiced throughout his career.

The painting is in an excellent state of conservation, lined and cleaned from old oxidized paints; it is accompanied by a beautiful golden frame.

The work, like all our objects, is sold accompanied by a certificate of photographic authenticity in accordance with the law.
