The pleasant painting proposed depicts a rather fascinating subject, with a handsome girl with the appearance of a goddess who, apparently without fatigue, subdues an irritated devil, whose foot she treads on;
The work, executed by a painter of Bolognese origin and active around the end of the seventeenth and the beginning of the eighteenth century, must be interpreted in an allegorical key.
The young girl, in particular, is the personification of Wisdom (or Virtus), considered the virtue capable of discriminating, from the moral point of view, the Good from Evil.
The attributes that characterize the young girl evoke the qualities: the laurel wreath that surrounds her head, the lance and the sun-shaped medallion, alluding to the light that emanates the truth reached through knowledge.
The pose and attitude indicate that he does not want to fight, or hurt, but rather present himself as an example of life, while subjugating the Vice.
Work in a good state of preservation, professionally weaved. Complete with antique golden frame.
