This is a pair of bas-relief carved friezes, depicting respectively the Allegory of Autumn, with a male figure holding ears of corn in his hands, and the Allegory of Spring, impersonated instead by a female figure holding a flowering basket.

Both figures, portrayed standing and half-naked as if to evoke two divinities, wrapped only in fluttering drapes, rest on capitals adorned with acanthus forls, in the Renaissance style.

The carving that characterises these bas-reliefs is part of the Flemish production of the 17th century, and was probably originally placed on the sides of a fireplace or door, or set into the woodwork of a patrician palace.
